VISITORS AND QUERIES

BY KAREN HANSEN

Since our last newsletter, we have had many visitors who were looking for assistance.  Glenn and Darlene Owens from Treynor stopped for information on repairing the gravestone of Maria, the wife of I. P. Chase.  They did a rubbing of the stone to help with reading the engraving.

Bonnie Brandt of Walnut wanted to know where C. L. SPALDING and Marcia Bryan SPALDING were buried in Lane County, Oregon.  We were quite lucky in finding grave photos, an obituary and the funeral home name, phone and address.

James Brown, also a local person, wants information on Caroline BROWN and found some obituaries of interest to him.

Vi Butler of Elm Creek, Nebraska stopped and we helped her to find obituaries of her HONEYWELL family.  She is also interested in the families of BRUCE and PARKER.

Ken and Mylene Riley of Walnut were seeking information on Kenneth RILEY.  Myra Hewitt from Kansas City wanted to visit the GAFFEY graves at the Catholic Cemetery.  We took photos of the GAFFEY gravestones for her.  She was also given obituaries, census records, marriage and baptism records.

Sheryl Fritz of Oakland was somewhat disappointed that the Adam Eckert we had found in a couple of newspaper articles, didn’t turn out to be her Adam ECKERT.  At least that clears up some discrepancies for her as to her Adam not being in Walnut when she felt he was actually located elsewhere.  She was also very happy to be able to access Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest to copy censuses for some of her ECKERT and FRITZ families.

We had a query from Denison regarding the HOWARD plot at the Catholic Cemetery.

Recently Sasha Sankey from South Dakota called the library seeking information on Wattie CLEVELAND, Joseph W. SANKEY, and the Central House Hotel.  We are putting her in touch with Wayne Keith Sankey, for whom we have done extensive Sankey research.  We found in her obituary that Mrs. Caroline CLEAVELAND was the mother of Mrs. Joe SANKEY of Wahpeton, North Dakota.
