IN LOVING MEMORY OF LONGTIME WGS MEMBER VIRGINIA DENNIS

Virginia Ann (‘nee Paulson) Dennis was born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 10, 1933, to Ivan William Paulson and Anna Wilhemine (‘nee Wunder) Paulson of Nevada, Iowa. She passed away peacefully the morning of March 26, 2024. Virginia attended Nevada Elementary School until her family moved to California when she was in the fourth grade. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High school in Long Beach, California in 1951 and attended Long Beach City College for two years.

She is predeceased by the love of her life of 44 years Robert Oden Dennis of Bellflower, California. They were married on January 8th,1954 in Long Beach, California. Bob had served in the Navy for two years on the fuel tanker USS Tolovana. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Ivan, and his wife Dorothy Paulson of Ames, Iowa and brother Bob Paulson, Corona, California and her grandson, Sam Dennis. Virginia and Robert worked for General Telephone Company until they retired at age 54. Robert started as an equipment man and retired as a supervisor of the special services dept. Virginia started as a long-distance operator and retired as an analyst for the customer services dept. They retired to Durham, California where they remodeled an older home and established a lovely flower garden. Virginia enjoyed creating new from old and spent numerous hours in her yard. Their seven grandchildren spent many hours with them.

Virginia reconnected with a friend and as Ron put it “Junior High sweetheart” Ronald “Ron” Paasch, and spent time in Walnut, Iowa on several acres of farmland with his herd of Angus cattle. She spent about six months of the year helping to maintain the farm and cattle records. They both came to her California home for the winter months. They both enjoyed traveling together, meeting new people, attending conventions and sales for Angus cattle.

She is survived by her sister, Dodie Vasey, Ellisville, Missouri; her five sons, Kevin Dennis and Keith Dennis (twins), Cary Dennis, Chris Dennis and Mark Dennis (wife, Miriam (‘nee Peters); her grandchildren, Anna Digby, Michael Dennis, Rebecca Dennis, Alysia Weiner, Victoria Dennis and Carl Dennis and two great grandchildren. A small service will be on April 8th, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the Hillside Chapel, Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, Whittier, California.
