BERNARD DUNN’S GRAVE MARKER

Early one morning in May 1875, Bernard (Barney) Dunn was “on the run” as a horse thief suspect. Barney was shot and killed as he was trying to avoid arrest. Burial was in the new cemetery just east of Walnut. No marker was placed at the grave. See the article in the April 2011 issue of the Antique City Roots newsletter for more information on this event.

In 2023, local Walnut resident Neal Schirm spearheaded a project to place a marker at Barney Dunn’s resting place. Those assisting the construction and placement were: Tim Branan, Jim Blum, Jim Petersen, Gary Blum, Amy Howell and Dave Krueger.
