School Teacher Requirements

SCHOOL TEACHER REQUIREMENTS

Herewith we are submitting for your consideration the following outline which Wright Township last year had printed and placed in the hands of the teachers. It seems to us the sentiments are much worthwhile and add a great deal to the uniformity of School administration.

******

LEST I FORGET

That I am to be at the schoolhouse at 8.00 A.M. and have the room warm at 8.30 during the winter months.

All time lost by me is to be made up at the end of the term, and NOT at noons, recesses, or on Saturdays.

I am to keep the stove or furnace free from ashes, thus insuring better service from them, keeping water in the pans or containers on the stove to humidify the air.

I will raise the flag every day, weather permitting.

I will have continual oversight over the toilets and see that they are kept respectably clean.

I will furnish the secretary with term reports every three months unless I am contracted for nine. I will send reports to the county superintendent as required.

I am to attend institute in the county where I am now teaching-Pottawattamie.

Twenty days constitute a school month.

My board grants me two holidays with pay, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and one day for institute.

I will supervise the playground and thus head off quarrels and strife.

I will not dismiss school before 4.00 P.M. and will not allow pupils to play outside noisily while school is in session. This applies to the primary children.

I am to discourage children from entering school if they are not five years of age before the beginning of the school year.

Laura Leonard, County Superintendent
