In Memory of WGS Member Emma Marie Heyne

Emma Marie Heyne, age 85, a long time resident of rural Walnut, passed away on Monday afternoon, August 11, 2003, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.

             Emma was born south of Walnut to Fredrick (Roy) and Minnie (Koll) Schuttloffel and lived on the family farm south of Walnut.  She graduated from the Walnut High School in 1935 and from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1939.  Emma was united in marriage to Clifford von Heyne on May 6, 1944 in Walnut.  She taught school in Wiota and Lewis High Schools until the end of World War II.  Following the war they moved to the family farm south of Walnut.  In 1983 they retired from the farm and moved to Atlantic.  She was an active member of the United Church of Christ, and enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her friends.

Emma is survived by one son Bruce Heyne of Walnut and a granddaughter Cassandra Heyne of Washington, D.C., and various cousins and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford, and a still-born son Duane.
