From the President’s Pen

By Paul W. Hutchins

There are some times that we are just scratching to come up with enough interesting information to supply to you in this newsletter.

We thought this was going to be one of those times.  Boy, were we wrong!

We wanted to use this issue to pay tribute to the many (often forgotten?) Civil War veterans from Walnut.

We thought we would have to have a lot of other items to fill the issue.  As it has ended, we could have easily filled this issue with just that information.

But, we had put out a call for an update on our WGS queries.

We wanted to honor the memory of WGS member Emma Heyne (whose obit. wasn’t published in the Walnut Bureau because she had been living in Atlantic).

We felt the need to give you an update on how the Lincoln Twp. Cemetery/History book is coming along and put out a request for any help our readers might give us on a few of the little known names of some of those who were planted in the small, historic cemetery.

And, we felt a little history of the GAR was in order, so we included a piece on that bit of history.

And, as you see, we have filled our newsletter quite well.

We have had a submission of a members’ family pedigree charts.  We will be sure to include it in our next issue.

Keep the articles coming.

And enjoy the reading.
